Thick VS fat...Hips Vs straight-ish

So here's another on for you all and I'm sure we'll get another nice debate on this one-it seems like a lot of you who read my blog like to send me your personal opinions by e-mail but also feel free to comment under the actual blog! It gets more people talking.
How big is a woman before she is considered fat or what kind of woman is considered to be "thick"? WOuld you classify Mo'nique, the comedian as fat or thick?

What about Buffie the bod?

 and Gabourey Sidibe, aka Precious

I remember when I first started university and had just lost 60 pounds,so I was fitting into size 6 jeans at the time, and 1 girl (who is now my dear friend) was talking and somewhere during the conversation, she called me "thick". It was the first time I had heard the word being used and I IMMEDIATELY assumed she was calling me Fat and took offence to it!. Later on, she explained to me that no,thick is a compliment and that people like Ashanti and Alicia Keys are thick, and that's what men(at least black men) like. I don't think I'll ever forget that conversation because it shocked me how fast I went into defense mode because here I was, having worked my butt off all year to lose 60 pounds and finding myself skinny and wanting to be called "skinny" almost my whole life, and how dare seomeone call me "thick"? It's fuuny how now, I love the term and have actually googled it to make sure that it's actually a compliment!Lol
According to urbandictionary.com, the no.1 rated efinition of thick is: "
nice ass, nice legs, not skinny, with meat on your bones. thickness is the sh*t."
and another definition is: "A woman with a perfect body, filled-in in places that are, by nature, designed to attract the opposite sex, such as the thighs, the hips, the breasts, and the most lovely part of all, the booty."
It makes me also think back on something that happened a few weeks ago, when a friend's friend, who is also a female, but very petite, came up to me and was like "ooo I love your ass and hips, I wish I had them,no homo"..I guess I've grown into my body and am learning that people  don't see me as "heavy" or "bulky" and I took the compliment graciously. She then continued by saying, "you see, you took it as a compliment, if I had said it to a white girl, she would have been offended that I thought she was big!"..and it made me think, that's pretty accurate. I feel like society is polarising the size standards of these 2 races. While black woemn who are "hour glassed or thicker below are being prasied and oogled by men everywhere (Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj anyone??), white women seem to still strive for that tall,slim,model-esque alomst shapeless figure. I have also noticed that whenever most white men describe a beautiful white women, they say she is either petite or slim. Wheras when a black man describes a beautiful women, they talk about her nice round ass, enough cleavage and thick thighs, etc. Try and tell a caucasian that she has some nice hips and watch her go on a diet soon enough.
Would you prefer to be slim or curvy, and how far does thick extend?

Black girl...or White girl? Choose your mate wisely

I have to talk about this, it's been a long time coming but my friends know I've had this sort of debate on Facebook and you know what, we never came to a real conclusion! So now I'm going to use my voice and get several people's opinions and hopefully even open up some people's eyes!

I have absolutely no problem with inter racial dating-none at all, but my problem comes when guys (especially black guys) claim to not be dating black girls BECAUSE of 1 or 2 bad experiences or stereotpes, or worse, they feel that dating a non-black girl is an upgrade from black women. Excuse me, but if I had to base my relationships based on bad experiences with black guys, I would be married to a white guy by now, but no we have to take each person as an INDIVIDUAL and not a racial stereotype. I'm going to go throught the excuses:

The "angry" excuse: A lot of black guys say black girls are "angry" and to that I reply, show me an angry black girl and I will show you 2 happy ones. I don't know where these guys hang out or maybe they attract these angry black girls to themselves, but not every single black girl wants to stab you in the heart.
The "real hair" excuse: Also, a lot of black guys say "I want a girl with real hair, which is funny to me because non-blacks use hair extensions just as much as black girls. We have black girls rocking their natural 'fro ALL OVER the world, just like we have girls with braids and also girls who put extensions in...Wake up!
The "too much work/drama" excuse: Ohh,I've heard about this one as well, apparently "black women" are too much drama and work. To this excuse, I again ask "which black girls have you been with? You certainly have not hung out with all of them so why the generalisation?" I have hung out with black boys-(yes,I will call them boys) who had more drama than 3 of my girlfriends put together. They were broke wanna be celebrities sleeping with 2 or more girls at the same time but guess what, I would still love to marry a black man if that's what's meant to be.

The "black women are no fun,too strict" :and to that I say no, YOU my friend are weak.
Hmm,last I checked black boy, your mother was black and strong and kept it tohether and made sure you were at school on time, even if that meant she had to skip a meal or 2. Made sure you were shining in that sunday suit for you class picture, even if it meant she had to bend over backwards for an extra 4 hours a night. How do you turn your back on that and use it as an insult?
As for us being no fun, how many of us know a black grandma who could bust a move at a family barbecue like no man's business? We have rhythm in us and we can let loose under the right circumstances, but also note that from time, we have always been dealt the shorter hand and have had to always fight to get what we deserve, so we like to put our game faces on! When we smile,it's genuine and golden.

All in all, what I'm trying to say is, never run away from a race thinking that the next race is "better" or doesn't have it's own issues. See people as individuals and not as a race or a hair extension. Think of the type of person you want to be with forever-put race aside. Do you want her to be strong, loving, nurturing, caring, smart, independent, beautiful and love you for who you are? Then go after HER...black, white or any other race.

DAVIDO!!!!!!!!!! IN CANADA Africans stand up!

Soo I know many of you following me and who read my blog will wonder who the heck I'm talking about, but Davido is a Nigerian artist who is becoming bigger and bigger and he's coming to Canada in 2 weeks! Okay, I'm not as excited as this post sounds but I am pretty darn excited! I recently got acquainted with him after hearing his most popular song in my friend's car-DAMI DURO. Whenever this song comes on I just get really excited! (Almost the same with Azonto). If you are not in touch with African music, please check out these tunes which are taking the airwaves by storm in Afirca! Plus,it doesn't hurt that Davido is not too bad looking with some cute dimples :)
I plan on checking him out live when he comes my way-he'll be in Mississauga on the 28th of April, and I know he is currently touring in the US! He sort of sounds like WizKid to me-but maybe that's just me but maybe it's the auto tune? Either way, he's got some good beats.

Here's the poster to his concert in Toronto and beneath it is the link to the song I've been pumping up to:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CyUo6rQ2rU

and here is AZONTO!! I'm in lovee with this beat and the dance.

Make up Forever!

Soooo, I'm not one to be a connaisseur in make up BUT I decided to step inside Sephora for the first time in my life and have to share with you all! I used to always walk by and knew they were rather pricey but had awesome make up. What urged me to walk in this time is the fact that one of my friends on Facebook has this pic on facebook with really nice pink lipstick and I was 99% sure she would have gotten it from Sephora (she tends to like classy, less affordable stuff, lol). SO after work on Friday I thought okay, I'm ready to spend $22 on a reallyy good lipstick but I'm going to take my time! (Heck, for $22 I'm going to take all day if need be!) The sales lady was soo helpful and veryy patient with me as we tried on about 10 shades of pink-even the famous Nicki Minaj pink which I'll say looked absolutely HORRIBLE on me! My 1st choice would have been the Yves Saint Laurent pink, but that was $40! I decided to settle for a lipstick half the price and totally love it!
Here's what it looks like without being applied:

The box with the shade number
Look at that pink!!

I also got probably the most amazing Foundation from Make up forever! I do have oily skin so yes after about 4 hours of wear, you need to oil-blot your face but it does give you a "flawless" finish. I used to be hooked on MAC Studio Fix foundation but I guess I've found a new love. First of all, it does cost $40 for their foundation, which is liquid and to get amazing results, you should be using a good brush (which holds for all make up),and which is why I ALSO purchased a Good Sephora brush!

My beautifil,soft brush-$34

So I took a few shots to show off my purchases-especially the lipstick! My hair was a mess, hence the hat!lol

See the way my forehead is so bright and vibrant! I put some of that Makeup forever foundation on! Perfect match to my skin tone and their shades go all the way dark-like Alek Wek dark!

Yup, I found my new love :)

This is what the foundation looks like in more natural light.

BOX BRAIDS!!

OMG so I am super superrr excited for my next hair style! So excited in fact that although I haven't even bought the hair yet, I'm going to blog about the hair style in anticipation! The style is called Box braids, or what many refer to as the "solange braids" because Solange Knowles is known to have made them even more popular. The thing is, not just anyone can create the certain braid effect I like. I love when my braids are full, neat and all even sized. No extra shreds here and there, not sparsely populated in the front...and it's SOOO hard to find someone here who can do that! Back home (Cameroon) you can pay someone less than $20 in order to get a beautiful full head of braids such as this:

But the braids I'm talking about are the 90s/old school ones:

I just love the way she has it up in a bun..so chic.

Everyone knows braids are great for those of who want to do away with heat and chemicals for a while. I really hope mine turn out real nice, even fuller at the top than Solange's own. Nigerian women tend not to be able to give me the full effect I want with my braids (this is based on personal experience so please don't be offended!) so I'm trying a Congolese this time!

Brandy also had some nice ones back in the day:

I don't want mine looking like Jada's (sorry Jada fans)
But yea, I guess box braids are back in! I'll be sure to post some gorgoeus pics of mine when I get them done-if they come out right! If not, well I guess you'll never know then.

 ******** 3 weeks later******
I got mine done! Here's what it looks like!

LOVE,LOVE,LOVE THEM!

Lay your stripes on Me

This look is 97.5% forever 21,can you imagine? I tend to shy away from Forever 21 except when buying tank tops and simple tops or some pieces of jewelry but I have recently seen and liked some interesting stuff. Although most of their pants are still ill-fitting (made for people without hips and thighs), I do like a lot of their skirts, blouses (made from polyester), chunky jewelry and sweaters. It was a bright day for snapping gorgeous pictures of me, so I went for it!
ENjoy:

From top to bottom:
Necklace-Forever 21
Pullover-Forever 21
Skirt-Forever 21 (comes with yellow belt)

What are your favorite Forever 21 items currently in stock? My next purchase from them will probably their gold skirt or their white/black blazer that my friend who works there told me about today (hehe, shout out to Bertha!)

How rich or Poor do you want to be?

Sooo as usual, I was just sitting here wondering, everyone (or almost everyone) always says how rich and successful they want to be, but do people realise that being successful does not necessarily mean you'll be rich? It's true that it could lead you to riches, but even so, that does not mean you'll be RICHHH. I have lots of friends who want to own several houses on different continents. I have those who want to earn 7 figures and above by the time they hit 30 but are they being realistic? Well, according to statistics-NO! Most of us will end up trying to pay bills for the rest of our lives. True, it's great to dream,in fact,it's wonderful and I'm not saying you should stop, like the song by Journey-Don't stop believing! However,re-assess your ideal income and most importantly, re-assess yourself to see if you're taking the necessary steps to reach your goal. I know people who sit on a couch and expect to somehow have JayZ's kind of money;ummm Hello? Before Jay Z had his kind of money, you don't think he hussled?

Steve Jobs sold stuff from his Garage,

the Spanx creator,Sara Blakely  (who's now the youngest self-made billionaire) used to sell Spanx from door-to-door!

I like to call our generation the Investors and Creators, If you're not creating the hottest new thing, you better be investing and purchasing shares in it,trust me. That;s where the money seems to be. Just take a look at sites like Facebook,tumblr,twitter,etsy.com etc. People who own shares in these are doubling up on their capital because we're in such a consumer-oriented society. I personally plan on owning shares one day in McDonald's (which I think will never go out of fashion) and the Real Estate business!
I don't want to be a millionaire nor billionaire-I think that comes with too much drama, lol but I want to make a good 6-figure sum! I want my money to work for me and generate profits even when I'm not working (thus the share-holding). I want to be able to fly ot Florida for a week without having to put it on a credit card to pay off later. I want my kids to be able to go to a private school, I want to be able to afford Zara clothes on a monthly-to-bi-monthly basis! I don't necessarily want to be able to buy a $3,000 pair of shoes or a $6,000 clutch-that's just absurd to me, but lots of people do. I would like someone to offer it to me!-hey,i like free stuff too! But most importantly, I really want to love whatever it is I'm doing or else it'll become burden-some and stressful. I want to be there for my children, take time off of work when each of them is born, without the fear of losing my job;that's the kind of job security I want.
Sooo, the question is, how rich do YOU wanna be and how do you intend to get there?

The power of the ass! Yes,I said it

So y'all knew this was coming one day and today is the day! Doesn't it baffle you how excited guys can get about that piece of fat that tends to hang off the posterior of a woman, especially women of African decent. I went out to the club a few weeks ago (unwillingly) and believe it or not, the Dj stopped the music and made everyone look up to the balcony to check this out:
Needless to say, the guys got very excited and the DJ even had the audacity to scream into the mic "I ain't gonna lie, I wanna f**k that ass up"...I don't know about you,but I found the whole thing very very derogatory and disgusting. Of course the girl loved the attention-apparently she's a video vixen here in Toronto, and she even gave the whole club a little booty dance and it just made me think wow, isn't it incredible what the back side can do?!
It just takes me back to every single KING magazine cover, which features a half naked-to naked black woman on each issue, emphasis always being placed on the ass. For example, my dear Lisa Raye on black men's magazine:
Miss Tahiry who's covered countless Black men's mags:

and Miss Melyssa Ford

and we have the obvious ones I did not feel like adding to the picture list like Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian.
I could go on but I'm sure you get the point.

Being a curvy woman myslef, I notice these things too! I went to work today in a form-fitting sweater dress and suddenly everyone seemed nicer to me,even the male supervisors!-Mind you, I usually wear longer skirts, dresses, blazers and pants to work. You get more attention from guys when they can see the assets you're working with. I like to be more creative with my dressing but I  like the occasional form-fitting dress. I have nothing wrong with curves and men admiring them, the problem ensues when they objectify women because of it. I love seeing a curvy women in so many different outfits because we make them look better! But Let me be known for my brain (in my head) AND then for my great body.
What do you guys think?

Reminiscing

You know I can't leave you without a pic for the day! :) This was taken with my old formal gown of 3 years ago. Still love

TAG YOU'RE IT!

So a nice blogger tagged me in this trend which is like 21 questions, except cooler because the questions change each time. Here are my answers to the questions she asked me:

1) How do I define love?-Love is accepting someone totally and completely for who they are, knowing that you cannot change them, but can influence them. Knowing they still love yo and miss you without them calling/texting.

2) I don't actually have a best friend but my closest friends are my sister Joyce, Josephine and Kathryn...we haven't seen each other in 6 years but we're still oh-so close!

3)My favorite season?? I love spring RIGHT BEFORE summer! Summer is too hot and sticky, springy-summer is perfect!Flowers out, maxi dresses, tank tops, skirts oh yea :)

4)I can't choose 1 favorite show:House,Ringer,Gossip Girl,sometimes ANTM.

5)If I won $1million, I would first of all pay off my credit card debt!lol

6)Favorite quote:Life is too short to blend into the crowd.-I think it's the first smart thing I heard Paris Hilton say.

7)Lipgloss over lipstick for work,or else Lipstick honey!!

8)If I could go on a date with a celebrity,it would be my girl Beyonce. She just seems like someone I could get and she would get me. Not too over-the-top-y-flashy like Rhianna. She would also increase my popularity!lol

9)My dream that came true is someone we'll know one day... :) :) <3

10)Follow me on twitter @yesbrendacan. GO NOW! I FOLLOW BACK!

11)Favorite movie(s): Bourne Ultimatum,Fast Five,Dark Knight,Harry Potter,Remember the Titans,Lean on Me,The SOund of Music,Guess who's coming to Dinner

2) What's the one thing you could not live without?
3) Would you change a part of your body? Why/why not?
4)When was the last time you told someone "I love you?"
5) How many actual friends do you have?
6) Where are your favorite spots to shop?
7) WHat's the most you've spent on 1 item of clothing?
